GGL got 1,500+ reports on suspected regulatory violations

Since early 2023, GGL has received more than 1500 reports on suspected regulatory violations.

GGL, or the German Gambling Authority, is the Joint Gambling Authority of the federal states in Germany, which plays a crucial role in ensuring the gambling industry’s compliance with German laws.

Since 2023, the Authority received more than 1500 reports, half of which include unregulated operators, while the other half includes possible regulatory violations by licensed online gambling providers. Thanks to the dedication of the regulator and the reports from its systems, significant steps have been taken to prevent illegal gambling.

Most reports of suspicious activities were connected to virtual slot machines, online sports betting, and commercial gaming agencies.

GGL CEO Ronald Benter said:

“This initiative is an important contribution to raising awareness of the risks of developing gambling addiction. We have the common goal of preventing gambling and betting addiction. The GGL’s job is to ensure that legal providers adhere to the strict rules on player protection and to combat illegal offers. Information from the public submitted via our whistleblower system plays an important role in this.”

With the help of these reports and investigations, the GGL was able to examine over 1,860 websites and stop 438 gaming providers’ operations and advertisers for illegal gambling practices and advertising.

GGL later published a guide on its website to help whistleblowers submit more effective tips, detailing how to verify the legality of gambling offers, what information is required for a proper investigation, and the reporting process through the whistleblower system.

Despite challenges in providing feedback on specific cases, the GGL continues to urge the public to report violations, emphasizing that detailed information’s importance for combating illegal gambling.
