Google announces introduction of new gambling ad block

Google announced that it will be introducing a new gambling ad block feature to its advertisement settings, meaning that users are now able to choose to see less gambling-related content on the platform. This new tool is supposed to help smoothen the process of recovery for those who have been either suffering or recovering from gambling addiction.

Google received feedback from its users revealing that they would prefer to have the option to limit the number of advertisements they can see regarding sensitive topics such as alcohol and gambling, hence why Google decided to execute this new feature.

This comes as no shock, seeing as it is not the first ad block that Google has introduced in order to help better protect its consumers. They previously created the ‘mute this ad’ feature, which allows users to never see a certain advertisement again. The difference is that with the new gambling ad block, the entire category can be muted. The decision can also be reversed if the person chooses to do so.

The gambling ad block will first be made available in the United States of America before it becomes accessible to the rest of the world, expected around early on in 2021.

Google stated in an official statement on their website: “This is an extra step, putting choice in the user’s hands and enabling you to further control your ad experience. We’ll continue to improve our controls; and as our products and people’s expectations of them evolve, so will the features we make available to personalize ad experiences.”
