Google approves licensed betting apps for Brazil’s Play Store
Google has announced a major policy update, now allowing licensed betting and casino apps on the Play Store in Brazil.
The move is designed to slowly get rid of illegal gambling apps in the country. Until now, Google has allowed operations only from those apps that were approved by Brazil’s Federal Bank, Caixa Econômica Federal, covering state lotteries and horse racing. Betting operators had to rely on unofficial methods to reach users.
Under the new policy, operators with a valid licence from Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) can offer their apps through the Play Store. However, the app must include a working link from the operator’s official website and follow all of Google’s advertising and content rules.
Gambling advertisements in Brazil
Google update touches gambling advertisements as well. Now, licensed operators can easily promote their services via Google Ads in Brazil, including in search results and on the Play Store, but only if they meet local requirements. However, the national ban on betting bonuses and advertisements is still actual.
