Iowa approves a casino project in Cedar Rapids

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) has approved the C& Entertainment Center’s $275 million project in Cedar Rapids, putting an end to years of delays and failed applications.

The decision, made in a 4-1 vote, grants a gaming license for the new casino, which will be located on 25 acres of city-owned land along the Cedar River.

After more than a decade of hard work and dedication, the Cedar Rapids Development Group finalized its journey to bring a casino to Iowa’s second-largest city. Just days before the approval, a proposal to impose a five-year moratorium on new casino licenses was rejected in the Iowa Senate, paving the way for this exciting new chapter.

Jonathan Swain, a board member at P2E, said:

“We are so thankful to the commission for giving us a fair shot at sharing our vision and for making Cedar Crossing a reality.”

While the project is moving forward, there are many concerns about its potential impact on other gaming venues. Particularly, the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort is expected to experience a revenue loss.

Despite this, the Casino is set to begin construction this Friday, with plans to open by late 2025 or early 2026, promising new jobs and economic opportunities for Cedar Rapids.
