On June 29, 2026, a Michigan judge ordered Kalshi to stop offering its prediction market products to residents after Attorney General Dana Nessel accused the platform of breaching state gaming laws.

Judge Rosemarie Aquilina from the Ingham County Circuit Court issued the temporary restraining order, warning that Kalshi would receive a $120,000 fine for every day that it fails to comply with the blocking order.

The  court order states:

“IT IS ORDERED that Defendant KalshiEX, LLC (“Kalshi”) is hereby enjoined from offering, listing, matching, executing, clearing, settling, or otherwise facilitating any contract, instrument, or product that constitutes internet sports betting as defined by MCL 432.403(s) to any person located in Michigan or through any platform or channel accessible in Michigan.”

The judge additionally stressed that non-compliance with Michigan’s gaming laws lets Kalshi get an unfair advantage over compliant operators and allows the prediction market to ignore tribal gaming operators’ sovereignty.

Kalshi’s Head of Communications, Elisabeth Diana, commented:

“It’s no surprise that we disagree with the state’s decision and will fight it in court. We won’t be bullied by interests that care more about protecting their monopolies than their consumers. In the meantime, we’re implementing restrictions.”

According to the court documents, Judge Aquilina’s order is set to remain effective for 14 days, with July 13, 2026, being the last day. After this deadline, the state could impose a long-term preliminary injunction.
