Kazakhstan couple arrested in Crown Sydney cheating scandal

A couple from Kazakhstan, who travelled to Sydney in October 2025, was arrested after suspiciously winning $1.2 million in table games during multiple visits to the Crown Sydney.

The 36-year-old woman and 44-year-old man were arrested by officers from the State Crime Command’s Organized Crime Squad Casino and Racing Unit after casino staff noticed on November 25, 2025, that the woman had a small camera attached to her shirt and notified the police.

Commander of the Organised Crime Squad, Detective Superintendent Peter Faux, said:

“Our detectives collaborate closely with casino security to identify and disrupt unlawful behavior. This strong cooperation is vital to maintaining the integrity of gaming operations and is reflected in outcomes like this.”

The couple had phones that captured the gaming table and earpieces to receive instructions on the games. The police found magnetized probes, batteries, a phone, and a small mirror, which they believe were used to cheat during gambling.

A subsequent search in the couple’s accommodation on Kent Street in Sydney found other gambling props, cash, and jewelry. After this, they were charged with dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception and refused bail.
