Last satellite casino to close in Macau on December 30
On December 30, 2025, Casino Landmark at the New Orient Landmark Hotel, Macau’s last satellite casino, will close for good.
This marks the end of a renowned business model in the world’s top casino markets, as satellites have been part of the gambling industry of Macau since the 2000s, when Stanley Ho’s casino monopoly was dismissed, and international operators were welcomed into the market.
Third-party operators were responsible for managing satellites, operating under the licenses of the city’s casino concessionaires. Gaming laws were later amended in 2022, when the initial 20-year concession ended. The new laws gave satellites three years to go from a profit-sharing model to a structure where they are owned by licensees.
Just three of the six concessionaires were linked to satellites: Galaxy, Melco, and SJM. They have all agreed to relocate satellite workers to their other operations in the city. Additionally, SJM advised its customers holding unredeemed chips or cash rebates to visit other SJM locations in Macau after December 31, 2025.
In June 2025, when concessionaires announced they would be closing 9 of the 11 satellites, industry stakeholders called it the end of an era. The news also raised concerns about decreasing foot traffic in those neighborhoods and the impact it would have on small businesses.
