Leadership change at Dutch Online Gambling Association

With effect from July 1st, Peter-Paul de Goeij will leave his position as managing director of the Dutch Online Gambling Association (NOGA).

De Goeij was appointed in June 2019 and has been valuable in guiding NOGA through regulatory changes in the Dutch online gambling industry. Due to his migration overseas, he will be leaving the trade association after five years in the position.

Eric Konings has been named interim director. From January 2018 to December 2021, Konings was the chairman of the board. From January 2022 onward, he was a policy adviser. Konings will have assistance in his post from Frans van Steenis, the former chief executive of Staatsloterij.

De Goeij emphasized the significance of the Dutch online gambling market’s development:

“The past few years have been hectic, with the opening of the Dutch online gambling market as an absolute highlight. I am now stepping down, but I am convinced that the sector will continue to make efforts to provide a safe and responsible gaming offering. That is and remains the best way to achieve optimal consumer protection. I thank the NOGA board for the trust it has placed in me over the past five years and I hand over the baton to Eric with confidence.”

Meanwhile, NOGA chair Remko de Boer praised de Goeij’s leadership in making NOGA into a powerful industry voice:

“This has enabled NOGA to properly represent the interests of its members, in a tumultuous time for the industry. We are confident that this trend will continue under Eric as interim director. We do, however, expect that the coming period will not become less turbulent.”

According to the trade association, the leadership changes present a good moment  for NOGA to reposition itself strategically, concentrating on sector concerns and the organization’s future path. According to Konings, the business has several “major challenges in the current political and social climate.” As a result, the organization is looking into innovative ways to represent industrial interests in the future.

Konings expressed satisfaction that van Steenis will collaborate with him to shape this process.
