In collaboration with Greater Manchester Police, the UKGC revealed that two suspects were arrested on May 28 after a raid connected to illegal gambling operations.

Police have detained a 66-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man after gambling tables, gambling chips, and account books were found in a location on Chester Road, which is believed to have been an illegal den for offering gambling services. As part of the investigation, mobile phones and cash found at the property were also seized.

The UKGC’s Executive Director of Operations, Sue Young, commented:

“Tackling all forms of illegal gambling is a focus for the Commission, so we were keen to work in partnership with Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council on this operation.”

The Commission also shared that the pair were previously arrested for similar crimes under the Gambling Act 2005 and the Licensing Act 2003.

PC of Greater Manchester Police, Nial Vivian, added:

“It is important that all businesses adhere to the laws put in place, which is why we took action in the city centre yesterday. Illegal gambling can cause many issues, from disputes about cash to money laundering, and it is important that we shut them down whenever we come across them. We have worked closely with our partners in both the Gambling Commission and Manchester City Council.”

Both suspects now remain in custody for further questioning, with specialists from the Financial Crime Unit and Money Laundering team supporting the investigation.
