The government of Japan and the MGM Osaka Corporation have warned users against fake websites impersonating the casino and luring players toward illegal gambling platforms.

According to a notice issued by MGM Osaka, the operator has warned users that fake websites are using the casino’s branding to promote and advertise illegal gambling platforms, claiming that online gambling is now permitted in Japan, despite clear bans against such activities.

The illegal websites have used the terms MGM, Japan, Osaka, and casino in their URLs, leading locals to believe that the platforms are officially connected to the operator.

The notice stated:

“We have confirmed the existence of fake websites that are using the name of MGM Osaka Corporation without authorization. These sites have absolutely no connection to our company and are not operated by or associated with us. In the event that you become a victim of fraud or notice any suspicious activity, please contact your nearest police station or relevant authorities immediately.”

MGM Osaka additionally shared that mgmosaka.co.jp is the only official website for the future integrated resort, which is expected to open in 2030 as a $7.85 billion joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Orix Corporation.

Addressing the impersonated websites, Osaka’s Prefectural Government added that neither the advertisement nor the promotion of online casinos is permitted in Japan.
