Novomatic settles French Vikings Casinos Group acquisition

Austrian gaming technology group Novomatic finalized its acquisition of French casino operator Vikings Casinos, following regulatory approval.

Founded in Falaise in 1998, the French group has become a respected name in the local gaming sector. The company was originally launched as a partnership between Vikings SAS, chaired by Serge Foucher, and Jeux C. Casino Consultant, led by Luc Le Borgne. Today, it is chaired by Romain Foucher.

Vikings Casinos operates around 1,000 gaming terminals across 11 land-based casinos in France, including high-profile venues on the Côte d’Azur, and employs more than 300 staff.

Stefan Krenn, CEO of Novomatic, shared on the acquisition:

“The acquisition of Vikings Casinos is a significant step on our path to systematically expanding Novomatic’s international market presence.

France is one of the most dynamic and demanding gaming markets in Europe. With this investment, we are not only strengthening our leading position in Europe but are also sending a clear signal for our long-term expansion strategy on a global level.”

The company added that it also sets the stage for further development of the local casino business “under the umbrella of a leading global gaming technology group”.

Earlier this year, Novomatic shared that it wants to concentrate on expanding its presence across international growth markets. In January, Novomatic sold its Atlas Group to Tipico Group for an undisclosed amount. In April, it launched a takeover bid for Ainsworth Game Technology, holding a 52.9% stake.
