Ontario regulator fines 2 iGaming suppliers over illegal sites
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has imposed $40,000 fines on Relax Gaming and Arrise Solutions for allowing unlicensed gambling operators to use their products on their websites.
The news was announced on May 7, 2026, as the regulator revealed that despite both companies holding AGCO licenses, they breached gambling laws by providing their services to unlicensed operators in Ontario.
Karin Schnarr, CEO and Registrar of the AGCO, commented:
“Ontario’s regulated iGaming market is built on clear rules designed to protect players and hold companies accountable. Unregulated gaming sites operate outside that framework, meaning players have no assurance of fair games, timely withdrawals, or access to meaningful dispute resolution. When regulated games appear on unregulated sites, it risks enabling a market that exposes players to real harm.”
After the penalties were imposed, the AGCO stated that Relax Gaming and Arrise complied with the investigation and immediately prohibited access to illegal websites for Ontario players.
The regulator has stressed that unlicensed platforms cannot guarantee appropriate player protection or information security, which are needed to maintain game integrity and responsible gaming standards. The fines are part of the AGCO’s broader measures to stop the supply of unregulated gaming and protect Ontario players.
