Paris reopens its doors for gaming clubs

After a two-month closure, Parisian gaming clubs opened their doors on March 1, following an extension of their trial period until the end of 2027.
The Parisian gaming club’s closure was announced back in December 2024. Later, in January 2025, the clubs were officially shut down. However, on February 25, the Council of State authorized their reopening, preventing a potential industry collapse.
While the Ministry of Labor has come up with partial unemployment benefits, covering 60% of staff salaries, many clubs are still at risk.
The shutdown had severe consequences, putting 1,500 employees on short-time work and causing a four-million-euro shortfall in state contributions. It also fuelled underground gaming, raising security concerns. Industry leaders are now pushing for gaming clubs to become permanent, with reported support from the interior minister.
For now, clubs can offer table games like poker and blackjack. Roulette and lots remain banned. Casinos de France President Grégory Rabuel argues that allowing roulette could boost revenue and combat illegal gambling. While the extension to 2027 provides stability, the gambling industry continues to seek long-term regulatory clarity.
