Philippiness records 23% increase in gaming revenue for Q1

According to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), the gaming sector brought in PHP28 billion ($503 million), surpassing the government sector by over 4%.
Electronic games and e-bingo games are the biggest contributors by making up more than half of the total gaming income. Casinos, both those run by PAGCOR and private licensees, accounted for the remaining 44%. Altogether, PAGCOR’s net profit reached PHP4.22 billion. However, when compared to the previous year, expenses significantly dropped by 15.5%.
According to the Chairman, Alejandro Tengco, the growth is driven by responsible management and tighter financial controls that the country continues to impose. Back in December 2024, the Philippines announced its plan to welcome 2025 without POGO operations. Moreover, PAGCOR also contributed nearly PHP19 billion to national development.
PAGCOR to expand its oversight
PAGCOR will soon strengthen its oversight by adding third-party gaming service providers, payment systems, marketing agencies, and testing labs to its operations. This move aims to clean up the sector and attract more international investment.
Back in July 2024, the Philippines banned offshore gaming and later exited the FATF Grey List. Looking ahead, PAGCOR plans to fully exit the casino operation business. The sale of its 45 venues, including Casino Filipino properties, could bring in PHP50 billion, with completion now expected in 2026.
