The UK has appointed Ruth Evans as the new Chair of the UK Gambling Commission, with Evans set to take over the role from Charles Counsell on September 30, 2026.
The appointment was made by Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Lisa Nandy, who shared that Evans will serve a five-year term, becoming the Commission’s first permanent chair since Marcus Boyle left the position in January 2025.
Nandy commented:
“I am pleased to announce Ruth Evans as the incoming chair of the Gambling Commission. She becomes Chair at this incredibly important time, supporting a sustainable, thriving industry with the essential protections needed to prevent harm.”
Evans currently chairs Stop Scams UK, which brings together banks, technology companies, and telecommunications firms to fight against financial fraud. She has also held senior roles at the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, Financial Conduct Authority, Bar Standards Board, and Serious Fraud Office.
Commenting on her appointment, Evans said:

Throughout my career in consumer protection, I have seen that the best outcomes are achieved through effective collaboration between regulators, industry and the technology sector.”
Her five-year term will also cover the implementation of further gambling reforms and ongoing work on consumer protection, financial risk checks and action against illegal gambling.
