The Romanian-based operator Superbet joins Betano on the list of official applicants, slightly over a month before the government ends its 90-day preference window.

Applicants who submit their proposals within the 90-day set deadline by the Ministry of Finance’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) in May will have an advantage in the licensing procedure.

Can this be the start of the applications rush?

By the time Normative Ordinance 827 was officially published in the Official Gazette on May 21, Brazil’s online betting licensing process had just begun. Upon the launch, Kaizen instantly submitted their application; however, only two companies have managed to complete the registration process so far after almost 50 days, thus making it appear that the registry is quite empty. 

Upon the release of final regulations in the course of this month, industry players anticipate an upsurge of applications.

Despite the initial slow start, Udo Seckelmann, head of gambling and crypto at Bichara e Motta Advogados, forecasts that up to 60 operators will submit their applications by the end of August.
