SkyCity named its new managing director for Adelaide
Avril Baynes has been appointed the new managing director for SkyCity‘s Adelaide casino.
SkyCity Entertainment, founded in 1996, is a gambling and entertainment company based in Auckland, New Zealand.
The company appointed Avril Baynes as its new managing director for Adelaide. Baynes joined SkyCity almost a decade ago, in 2015. At that time she was working as an executive manager at the SkyCity Darwin casino.
SkyCity CEO Jason Walbridge said:
“I’m delighted that Avril has agreed to lead our team in Adelaide on a permanent basis. She has led our uplift activities in Adelaide over the last five months and will continue to prioritise these alongside working closely with our regulators.”
Recently, the company has been facing Adelaide challenges and has planned to reduce the value of its Adelaide assets by AU$ 86.2m (NZ$ 94.3m). This new adjustment was based on new expectations about the introduction of mandatory carded play at the Adelaide casino in 2026. Adelaide challenges, however, did not affect the company’s EBITDA results.
Avril Baynes will take the new role on September 16.
SkyCity remains consistent
In July, SkyCity announced it would be closing its casino for 5 days after a customer complaint that stated that players were able to gamble continuously without SkyCity’s technological system’s detection. Later, on September 9, SkyCity was already closed for 5 days till September 13.
Despite the tough year, the company managed to hit $928.5m in Q2
