Spillemyndigheden announces debut of land-based bingo license
The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, announced that starting November 21, Denmark’s new land-based bingo regulations are in effect.
The licenses will become valid starting January 1, 2025, but all those operators who apply for a license by December 10, 2024, will be guaranteed to start their operations with the start of the new year.
However, Spillemyndigheden will require additional information from operators as they must meet special conditions within a specific deadline. Operators can visit Spillemyndigheden’s official website, where they’ll find detailed information about the application process, necessary materials, and step-by-step instructions. Additionally, the regulator is hosting an information session on December 5, 2024, in Odense to provide further insights into the new bingo regulations.
In its ongoing efforts to maintain integrity in the gambling sector, Spillemyndigheden also reminded operators to consider the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) latest gray list, which now includes Lebanon as a high-risk jurisdiction. While not all players from these regions require enhanced due diligence, operators must remain cautious when assessing such players.
Recently, Spillemyndigheden got rid of 79 illegal gambling sites, some of which were targeting vulnerable groups, including children and young adults. Since 2012, Spillemyndigheden has blocked 438 illegal gambling sites.
