Major online sports betting companies including FanDuel, DraftKings, Fanatics, and bet365 have spent more than $72 million on the midterm elections in the United States, according to finance data from the campaigns.

As reported by Reuters, DraftKings contributed over $34 million to the Win for America political action committee (PAC), while FanDuel spent around $27 million. Fanatics and bet365 have spent $5.5 million each, with bet365 making the donation through its Hillside U.S. subsidiary. DraftKings also gave $1 million to other committees, and FanDuel spent an additional $2 million.

The Win for America PAC supports 2 affiliate PACs, with American Future focused on Democrats and the American Conservative Fund focused on Republicans.

According to estimates, the sports betting industry has now become the third-biggest corporate donor after the crypto and technology sectors to fund the midterm elections. The goal of the large donations is to gain greater influence over elected politicians and generate sympathy for the industry’s concerns.

Previously, DraftKings, Fanatics, BetMGM, and FanDuel established the Sports Betting Alliance in 2021 as a measure to lobby Congress and state legislatures connected to the regulations and legality of online gambling in the U.S. The move came after the Supreme Court overturned federal law and allowed states to authorize sports betting in 2018, with the industry also increasing lobbying expenditures in the following years.
