Sports betting hits $657.7M wagers in North Carolina

North Carolina’s sports betting wagers for November hit $657.7 million, surpassing March’s wagers of $693.3 million.

North Carolina launched legalized sports betting on March 12. Now, eight major businesses, including FanDuel and DraftKings, have been granted licenses to provide sports betting in the state.

When analyzing the wagering number for November, only $638.7 million was contributed from real-time bets, while $19 million came from promotional plays. It is worth mentioning that March saw $456.7 million in real-money wagers and $202.6 million in promo bets as operators sought to attract new users.

November is not only about big wagering numbers. According to the North Carolina State Lottery Commission, revenues for the month also don’t remain behind. Operators reported $78.1 million, which is significantly more than September’s revenues of $70.1 million.

Gambling taxes in North Carolina

For November, operators paid $14.1 million in taxes, with the state’s 18% tax on gross gaming revenue (GGR) delivering a steady stream of public funds. For a better image of the sector, North Carolina’s 10.8 million residents are wagering at rates comparable to Michigan, which has a similar population. While Michigan’s November figures are pending, October saw a handle of $560.4 million, compared to North Carolina’s $612 million.

Safer gambling

North Carolina is not the only state that is committed to protecting the people who live there when it comes to safe betting activities. Just recently, in Vermont, a website was created leveraging the same idea about responsible gaming courtesy of the state’s mental health authority.
