Star Entertainment executives testify amid inquiry

In an inquiry into the casino operator’s suitability, former CEO Robbie Cooke, chairman of  Star Entertainment Group David Foster, and other senior executives are expected to appear.

The public hearings for the probe are about to begin their second week.

According to testimony given last week, Foster and Cooke had talked about adopting a combative approach toward the NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC) and Manager Nicholas Weeks, who oversees casino operations. This disclosure prepares the audience for what might be dramatic testimony from Cooke and Foster.

Nicola Burke, the chief transformation officer, Director Anne Ward, and Chief Risk Officer Scott Saunders are also anticipated to testify this week.

Expert in cultural transformation Dr. Attracta Lagan chastised Star’s senior management for their lack of enthusiasm in altering the company’s culture. She drew attention to the organization’s lack of internal transformation efforts in spite of large expenditures on outside consultants. Lagan claimed that Star never paid attention; Robbie Cooke was too preoccupied with fund-raising, and the feedback loop was absent.

This week, Foster is supposed to testify third, and Cooke will testify right after. It is anticipated that their testimony will provide additional insight into the internal operations and decision-making procedures of Star Entertainment Group.
