Washington officially bans election results bettings
After the news of the US election betting boom in marketplaces such as Kalshi, the Washington State Gambling Commission (WSGC) reminded people of the official ban on election betting, naming it an illegal form of gambling.
Kalshi, a website where people can make predictions on events, got the approval from the FTC to allow political bets, which, according to the CEO, Tarek Mansour, gives a better read on public opinion than traditional polling.
Kalshi can legally operate across the U.S., but some states, like Washington, are sticking to a firm “no” on election bets because they worry it could mess with the integrity of elections.
This reflects the confusing state of online betting laws across the US. Washington’s gambling officials remind society that betting on elections is still illegal, no matter what Kalshi claims about federal approval.
Washington residents are warned that participation in this kind of gambling activity is full of legal risks and may result in negative consequences.

The news about the Kalshi platform was announced on November 1, 2024. The platform reported that since September 2024, more than $100 million had been wagered with major players like Interactive Brokers and Robinhood, who often showed favorable odds for Donald Trump.
