White House teleprompter operator Gabriel Perez has been accused of making over $100,000 by placing bets on U.S. President Trump’s speeches on prediction market platform Kalshi.
Perez has worked at the White House since 2016 and has now been placed on administrative leave after an investigation was launched into his suspicious betting activity. It’s believed that Perez illegally used his prior knowledge of exact words and speech topics to trade on Kalshi’s mention markets.
The investigation began after Kalshi notified the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) of the abnormal patterns, with the CFTC now reviewing whether Perez’s actions qualified as misuse of non-public information.
Bobby DeNault, head of enforcement at Kalshi, shared:
“Our surveillance team promptly flagged and referred these trades to the CFTC, and we are cooperating and assisting regulators.”
The prediction market operator also shared that it was able to freeze Perez’s account, leaving him unable to withdraw any winnings.
Additionally, the press secretary of the White House, Karoline Leavitt, commented on the matter, revealing that President Trump ordered Perez to be put on unpaid leave, and called the incident a “disgrace”.
According to the CFTC, Perez had traded contracts connected to Trump’s December 2025 primetime address, remarks during March 2026’s Medal of Honor ceremony, and a January 2026 speech at the World Economic Forum.
