WinBet gets banned in Sweden for operating without license

Swedish Gambling Regulator, Spelinspektionen, has banned WinBet for illegally targeting Swedish players through its Superb.bet website.

Spelinspektionen investigated WinBet and found out that the operator only holds a license in Greece. Under Swedish law, operators can target players in the country  if the website meets several criteria, such as offering a Swedish language version and payment methods only available in Sweden.

WinBet meets several of these criteria. Superb.bet automatically defaulted to Swedish when visited from an IP address in the country. Also, Swedish players could register without any form of verification, despite the site not being licensed.

Spelinspektionen gave WinBet an opportunity to respond to the charges, but the operator didn’t comment. Regulator proceeded to ban WinBet, with immediate effect.

Last October, WinBet faced regulatory activity as well. Dutch regulator Kansspelautoriteit discovered that WinBet had been operating without the required license. It operated 4 websites: Galaxyspins.com, Winnercasino1.bet, Superb1.bet, and Doctorspins.com. None of these sites were approved in the Netherlands.

The operator was required to withdraw or face a weekly penalty payment of  €280,000. WinBet had to pay until the maximum of €840,000 was reached.
