Wynn Resorts addresses data breach and ransom demand claims
With Wynn Resorts facing a $1.5 million ransom demand from hackers and being accused of mishandling employee data, the company has confirmed that the unauthorized third party has since claimed to have deleted the stolen data.
Wynn Resorts stated that it hasn’t observed any signs of misuse or public disclosure of personal data and added that the attack had no effect on guest experiences or operations, and according to the company, all properties were fully operational.
Wynn Resorts CCO Michael Weaver commented:
“This incident has had no impact on our guest experience, our operations, or our physical properties, which are all fully operational and open for business. We are monitoring and to date have not seen any evidence that the data has been published or otherwise misused.”
In order to decrease the potential risks from the breach, Wynn has offered affected employees complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services, and the company is collaborating with cybersecurity experts to improve its systems and prevent future issues.
Shiny Hunters, the group believed to have been behind the cyberattack, claimed that the data had been deleted, but Wynn didn’t confirm whether the attackers received the ransom payment or not.
