YouTube announces new rules for gambling and violence content

YouTube is updating its content policies again, this time focusing on gambling-related videos and violent gaming footage, by restricting them since November 17.

Under the new guidelines, YouTube will restrict videos that promote or somehow link to any kind of online gambling activities, including online casinos, crypto gambling, NFTs, or skins gambling. Moreover, social casino or sweepstakes-style games will also be age-restricted, although they don’t involve real money.

YouTube’s announcement states:

Existing videos. Content uploaded before November 17, 2025, that violates these guidelines may be removed or age-restricted, but will not result in a strike. Remember, age-restricted videos can stay on your channel for 18+ audiences.

Making edits: For creators who have content that’s in scope of these updates, you may be able to edit your video description or use our video editor trim or blur tools to make any necessary changes before November 17, 2025.

Notifications: If we age-restrict or remove your content, we’ll notify you by email. If you disagree with the decision, you can always choose to appeal.

YouTube isn’t banning gambling content entirely, but wants to make sure it’s visible only for adults.

Violent content will also not remain out of YouTube’s target. All scenes from video games that include realistic violence, torture, or harm to human characters who aren’t part of combat will have to be blurred or edited.

Creators will not receive any fine for existing videos that violate the new guidelines. However, they may work on their channel and add age restrictions or remove certain videos before the changes take effect.
