Arizona to start accepting new betting license applications

Arizona’s Department of Gaming has revealed that it will open the application process for new betting licenses on June 26, 2026, with the application window set to run until July 10, 2026.

Sports betting was first legalized in the state in 2021, with 20 licenses in total, of which 10 are for state tribe-partnered operators, and the other 10 are reserved for operators with an Arizona sports franchise partner. The license application window periodically opens when slots are available, with the previous one launched back in 2024.

The Department of Gaming shared in a statement:

“The agency will accept applications for not less than one event wagering license reserved for Arizona Tribes and not less than one event wagering license reserved for Arizona Sports Franchises. The application window for event wagering licenses will open on June 26, 2026, and will close on July 10, 2026, at 5 p.m. Arizona Time.”

Cliff Holden, the Department’s Assistant Director of Certification and Licensing, commented:

“As the state regulator, we remain dedicated to consumer protection and a thorough licensing review process. We look forward to receiving new applications for regulated event wagering.”

In its May 27 publication, the regulator also stated that all applications must be fully submitted in the given timeframe in order to be considered for a license, with operators urged to review state requirements before sending the applications.

At the moment, there are 14 active operators in Arizona, including popular brands like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Fanatics, and Caesars; however, other companies like Betway, Betfred, Unibet, and SuperBook Sports chose to exit the market in recent years after reviewing their operational strategies.
