Australian Government to ban gambling ads
The Australian Government, a government from a country that is on the list of the biggest losses per person because of gambling, has received a new demand from alliance of leading Australians to set a complete ban on gambling ads.
With its population of 27 million, Australia’s gambling losses are estimated at A$25 billion a year (S$21.1 billion).
Advertisements, encouraging people to risk their money are widespread on television, radio, and billboards. “Pokies” slot machines in pubs and clubs also draw people’s attention to give it a try.
More than 60 prominent Australians signed the following letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and also the opposition leader:
“Gambling advertising in Australia is out of control with one million gambling ads being aired on free-to-air television and radio in just one year.”
Earlier this month, the government was discussing limiting gambling ads to two per hour. However, the new letter, signed by former political, faith, and union leaders, hopes for a complete ban.
