Crypto.com stops offering event contracts in 9 US states

After various enforcement actions and investigations, Crypto.com has stopped offering sports event contracts in 9 U.S. states.

The company has confirmed that it has withdrawn from Arizona, Michigan, Maryland, Massachusetts, Illinois, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, and New York. These states have previously spoken against prediction markets and compared them to illegal sports betting.

A Nevada court has denied Crypto.com a preliminary injunction against the Nevada Gaming Control Board, while Arizona and Illinois regulators have issued cease-and-desist orders.

A spokesperson from the Arizona Department of Gaming said:

“The Department was made aware that Crypto.com ceased offering sports event contracts and prediction market offerings in Arizona following enforcement and licensing actions taken by the Department within its regulatory authority.”

Clifford Holden, assistant director for certification and licensing, wrote:

“ADG has investigated this matter. It has been determined that Crypto continues to operate illegally in Arizona.”

While Crypto.com still operates in other states, regulators have also issued opinions or warnings against prediction markets, without naming specific operators.

In contrast, Kalshi, another key member in the Coalition for Prediction Markets, stressed it cannot geofence by state and noted it would cost millions of dollars annually.
