Detroit’s 2024 casino revenue hits $1.29B

According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, Detroit, a city in the midwestern state of Michigan, recorded the best performance after the pandemic with $1.29 billion in revenues, generated by three commercial casinos.
The growth is primarily fuelled by the popularity of slot machines and table games. Slots contributed $1.03 billion, making almost 80% of the revenue, while table games contributed $250.96 million. Retail sports betting, while growing, remained a smaller player, contributing just $9.7 million, or only 0.8% of the total.
December concluded the year with impressive earnings of $109.6 million, mainly driven by slots and table games. MGM Grand Detroit claimed 47% of the market share. MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown followed with 30% and 23%, respectively. The fourth quarter also saw notable growth, with an 18.7% increase from the previous year.
Individual casinos
In the individual casino segments, MGM Grand Detroit took the crown with $603.72 million in annual revenue, which is more than 7% when compared to last year. MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown also posted solid results, with year-over-year increases of 3.3% and 2.7%, respectively.
Despite the strong recovery in slots and table games, retail sports betting faced some difficulties, with the 2024 handle falling behind 2022 levels. However, taxes collected from the industry remained robust, reflecting a resilient comeback for Detroit’s casino scene.
