Entain filed a case against Sportingwin
Entain claims that Bulgarian online betting operator’s brand Sportingwin is too similar to Sportingbet, filing a case with the Malta Civil Court requiring the operator to stop using its present domain.
Entain’s EU trademark was issued in 2017 and the company has the right to prohibit any other third-party entities from using wording that is similar to theirs as it can result in confusion among players.
Initially, Entain’s request to temporarily suspend Sportingwin’s use of its domain was approved by the court, however, after Sportingwin submitted its response the decision was revised.
In its filing, Sportingwin demanded compensation for the interim measures, arguing that there was no legal basis for the decree. The case is scheduled for a hearing in October, and CEO Rashev is optimistic that it might be settled out of court.
This is not the first juridical dispute between two operators. In February 2023, Entain filed a similar case with the Czech Arbitration Court’s Arbitration Centre.
But the court dismissed Etain’s claims, allowing Sportingwin to retain control of its domains.
