Europe’s gambling market hit a record €123.4 billion in revenue in 2024, marking a 5% rise from the previous year, according to a report by the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) and H2 Gambling Capital.

iGaming continues to expand, reaching €47.9 billion, while traditional, land-based gambling saw growth to €75.5 billion ($81.6 billion). Currently, iGaming makes up 39% of the total market, up from 37% in 2023, showing a clear shift in player preferences. Mobile gambling is also on the rise, generating 58% of online revenues.

Lottery remains the biggest gambling product, pulling in €38 billion, mostly from physical locations. Casino games, however, are largely online, with €21.5 billion of its €30 billion total coming from digital platforms. Sports betting is also thriving online, with €13.7 billion of its €20.1 billion revenue coming from digital sources.

Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of EGBA, said:

“Europe’s gambling market showed steady growth in 2024. While land-based gambling remains dominant and continues to grow in absolute terms, online channels are showing stronger momentum, driven by changing consumer preferences and technological advancement. Looking ahead to 2025, we expect online gambling to cross the significant 40% market share milestone, with this trend projected to continue in the coming years as online gambling is expected to approach parity with land-based gambling by 2029.”

Different European countries show different gambling trends. Sweden and Finland have 70% of gambling revenue coming from online platforms, while Spain sees online platform inclusion only for 14.2%. The UK leads the European market with €30.8 billion in total revenue.

Looking ahead, the gambling market is expected to grow to €127.7 billion in 2025, with iGaming projected to hit a 40% market share.
