Former DraftKings trader charged in Fresno betting scheme

Nevada authorities have hit a former sports trader at DraftKings with felony charges for his involvement in a Fresno State basketball betting scheme.

The trader, Samuel Silverman, was first arrested on May 5, 2026, after a wider Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) investigation into abnormal betting activity. He is now facing charges of a fraudulent act in a gaming establishment and conspiracy to cheat at a gambling game, but has since pleaded not guilty.

Silverman’s attorney, Michael D. Pariente, commented:

“We will present a vigorous defense of Mr. Silverman in a court of law based on evidence and facts, not in the court of public opinion, polluted by bias, speculation, and rumor.”

The investigation has flagged the January 7, 2025, game between Fresno State and Colorado State, with authorities claiming that Silverman helped distribute around $2,000 in bets connected to Fresno player Mykell Robinson, which returned $15,950. Initially, the probe began after Fresno State and a betting integrity monitor identified suspicious bets on Robinson.

A DraftKings spokesperson shared:

“The alleged activity at issue did not occur on DraftKings’ platform, and the individuals involved are no longer employed by the company. We strongly condemn the alleged conduct of these former employees and remain committed to protecting the integrity of sports and sports betting.”

Additionally, other individuals have also been named as suspects in the case, including Silverman’s former colleague at DraftKings, Matthew Martin, and Robinson’s former teammate Steven Vasquez.
