Starting from December 1, 2025, all horse racing gambling-promoting content has been banned, as Google continues to update its Gambling and Games advertising policy in the US.

The US gambling industry is now undergoing big changes with tighter regulations on advertising. Consequently, Google’s policy reforms are connected to the heightened federal attention on tech platforms and insurance of safer betting environments for users.

The policy states:

“All existing certifications for horse racing aggregators will be revoked, and applications for certification for online gambling promoting content for horse racing will no longer be accepted.”

However, the ban will not apply to licensed operators, so companies that legally offer horse race betting can continue to run Google Ads, given they are compliant with regulations.

Earlier in 2025, Google also reclassified sweepstakes casinos and labeled them as real-money gambling.

Although licensed operators may feel that this change is advantageous for them, affiliates can face setbacks. Affiliates rely on Google Ads to direct users to off-site operators, and now that unlicensed advertising is banned, platforms will have to change their marketing strategies to focus on more permissive advertising jurisdictions.

Google has also expanded restrictions on physical casino advertising and applied new regulations in 42 countries. The goal is to ensure compliance with local laws and limit illegal advertising of land-based venues.
