Macau expects to generate $29.7B GGR in 2025
Macau, an autonomous region on the south coast of China where casino gaming is lawful, forecasts to generate a GGR of MOP240 billion ($29.7 billion) in 2025.
The Macau government has introduced its 2025 Fiscal Year Budget Proposal, focusing on growth numbers in gaming and tourism markets. These numbers serve as a key component for planning the total fiscal budget, which includes not only GGR revenues. The country expects to hit MOP121.09 billion, which equals $15 billion.
In 2024, Macau’s casino GGR reached MOP190.1 billion, which equals $23.7 billion. This is an increase of 28.1% when compared to the previous year. However, despite the growth, it remains lower by 23% when compared to the pre-pandemic revenues of 2019.
Bank of America’s forecasts for Macau
In October, Bank of America raised its 2024 GGR forecast to MOP227 billion ($28.1 billion) based on strong performance in Macau’s third quarter and during Golden Week. For 2025, Bank of America estimates GGR at MOP230 billion ($28.5 billion), reflecting continued growth and potential impacts from stricter controls on illegal currency exchange activities. Although lower than the government’s forecast, these revised estimations show confidence in Macau’s continued recovery.
