New South Wales considers cashless gaming system by 2028
The Independent Panel on Gaming Reform has recommended that Australia’s New South Wales integrate a cashless gaming system by 2028.
It took almost 16 months for the panel to create a step-by-step guide to the cashless gaming system. In order to successfully place the payment, a user needs to create an account and connect his physical card to the account.
Former NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming, and Racing Commissioner Michael Foggo commented:
“This has been challenging and complex work, and I thank each of the panel’s 16 members for their time, expertise, and enthusiasm over the 16 months of the panel’s work and for contributing their views to developing the recommendations.”
The panel received different reactions, both supporting and not supporting.
NSW Council of Social Service CEO Cara Varian stated:
“Mandatory and universal account-based gaming is the only way we will achieve meaningful reform on gambling harm reduction and anti-money laundering.”
The panel suggests not only a cashless gaming system but also a mandatory face recognition system. All recommendations are included in a 530-page report with all details. It is important to note that a small amount of cash payments in the gaming sector will still be accepted even if the recommendations go into effect.
