Spillemyndigheden reports a 3.2% decline for September 2024
For September 2024, the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, reported a 3.2% decline in gambling revenues, which equals $81 million.
Despite the August decline, the online casino segment keeps dominating the Danish market, generating DKK288 million, which is more than 12.1% in year-on-year results. The biggest part of contributors take slots, making almost 77.1% of online casino revenues. Meanwhile, blackjack, roulette, poker, bingo, and other games took a smaller part.
Sports betting revenues in Denmark
The sports betting segment experienced the biggest decline, with a revenue decline of 21.7% year-on-year, which equals DKK144 million. Mobile betting takes the crown with 69.2%.
Revenue from land-based slot machines saw a slight decline of 4.2% with DKK92 million. 79.2% of these revenues came from gaming halls, while restaurant-based machines contributed the rest. Land-based casinos generated the remaining DKK29 million, a decline of 9.4% from the previous year.
Spillemyndigheden’s regulations
Spillemyndigheden saw a rise in self-exclusion registrations. By September 2024, 53,043 people had enrolled in ROFUS, with 77.6% being men. Moreover, StopSpillet, Denmark’s gambling support hotline, received 37 calls, primarily from young adults aged 18–25. The data highlights the continued popularity of online casino gaming and a trend toward self-regulation among Danish players, especially among younger groups.
