UKGC launches the third consultation on gambling reforms

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has launched a 16-week consultation to gather public and industry feedback on proposed updates to gaming machine standards.

The UK plans to apply huge changes to the gambling market. The changes include the introduction of five new standards, a new license condition, and a social responsibility code. Moreover, time and spending limits will also be introduced by session time and net position display.

These changes spark debate; however, the UKGC carefully considers public opinion before making changes and organizes a consultation set to run from January 29 to May 20, 2025, focusing on updating technical standards for land-based gaming machines.

Tim Miller, executive director for research and policy at UKGC, said:

“We are encouraging consumers, gambling businesses, and other interested groups to share evidence that will assist us in measuring both the likely regulatory impacts of the proposed changes and the likely costs of implementing them. This evidence will be invaluable in helping make a robust assessment of whether the benefits to consumers are proportionate to the costs involved.”

By gathering feedback, the UKGC hopes to bring a balance between regulation and industry sustainability. Anyone with an interest in gambling safety has a chance to contribute to shaping the future of the UK’s gaming industry.
