UKGC publishes timeline for license condition changes

The UK Gambling Commission has published the timeline for the revisions it plans to make to the Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) for gambling operators, including event reporting, consumer protections, gaming machine compliance, and complaint procedures.

From March 19, 2026, operators will have to follow new reporting rules, with the threshold for notifying changes in ownership increasing from 3% to 5%. The definition of “relevant persons” will start to include entities without share capital, and all relevant loans will have to be reported, despite being formally documented or not.

Effective from April 6, 2026, the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 will be replaced by the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCC), affecting fairness, transparency, and marketing conditions for licenses.

During spring 2026, rules on complaints and dispute resolution will be updated once DMCC provisions are activated. Accreditation references will be renewed, and outdated mentions of approved ADR provider lists will be removed.

From July 2026, a new license condition will require non-remote operators to remove gaming machines if they don’t meet compliance standards.

The commission itself is going through a series of changes in its leadership, as it still has to appoint a new chair after Marcus Boyle resigned in January 2025.
