Curaçao’s gambling regulator under investigation

The Curaçao and Sint Maarten Financial Supervision Board (Cft) has confirmed that the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) is under investigation, with the Criminal Investigation Cooperation Team assigned to the case.

The letter written by Cft chairperson Lidewijde Ongering said:

The Curaçao and Sint Maarten Financial Supervision Board understands that the Public Prosecution Service is conducting an investigation into the CGA. The CGA is responsible for implementing the LOK. The Cft is closely monitoring developments and will discuss these matters with the relevant officials.”

The news comes after responsibility for gambling regulation was passed to the Ministry of Justice from the previous finance minister, Javier Silvania. He had resigned from his position in October 2025 after a corruption scandal.

Silvania was reportedly trying to fire several civil servants and discussed the matter with the head of the Tax Receiver’s Office, Alfonso Tron. The scandal came as an audio was leaked of the two of them arguing.

This is also not the first case of such a scandal among Curaçao’s authorities responsible for the offshore gambling system. In 2024, opposition politician and academic Dr. Luigi Faneyte filed a report against Silvania and other senior staff who were involved in the reform process.
