Denmark records 37% increase in gambling spend
In June, the total amount of money spent on gaming in Denmark rose by 37%, as compared to the corresponding month from 2023, reaching DKK703m, which is equivalent to £81m and was largely attributed to an impressive increase in betting expenditure.
In June 2020, DKK 271 million (£ 31.2 million) were gambled on betting, compared to DKK 154 million (£ 17.8 million) for the same date the previous year. This added up to a total gambling cost of DKK 513 million (£ 59.1 million), more than the past year.
Yet online casinos remain the most preferred option by far despite an increase in betting with expenses reaching DKK 303 million (£ 34.9 million) for June instead of DKK 238 million (£ 27.4 million) in 2020.
Denmark’s overall expenditure on gambling also rose on a month-on-month basis from DKK 571 million (£ 65.8 million) during May 2020.
In this case, betting revenues grew from DKK164 (18.9 million), and online casino spending increased from DKK 278 (32.1 million).
On land-based conditions, gaming machines generated DKK 97 million (£11.2 million) in June while DKK 32 million went into land-based casinos within the same period.
