Denmark to introduce reforms in its gambling laws
In an effort to reduce gambling addiction and the promotion of betting services, Denmark’s Minister of Taxation proposed new legislation to reform the country’s Gambling Package 1 on February 25, 2026.
The proposed changes include a whistle-to-whistle ban on gambling ads during sports events, which would mean that gambling ads would be prohibited from 10 minutes before the start of the game until 10 minutes after it ends. Additionally, banning live odds banners during matches was also suggested.
The reforms would restrict appealing to young people and using public figures in betting ads, and would prohibit offering free bets as a welcome gift. Risk warnings would be required to be displayed in all types of gambling ads.
The self-exclusion options under the ROFUS system will be improved, with funding for gambling addiction treatment increased. Enforcement of the new regulations will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Gambling Authority.
Gambling Package 2 is another measure to possibly ban prediction markets in the country, although a final decision hasn’t been made yet.
If Gambling Package 1 is passed, it will come into force from July 1, 2026, while Gambling Package 2 will be implemented from July 1, 2027, if the amendments are passed.
