Spelinspektionen reports 1.2% turnover declines in Q3
The Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen, reported a Q3 turnover decline of SEK 6.7bn (£479.7m) from licensed Swedish gambling companies.
Sweden, a Scandinavian country where gambling is legal, saw a slight 1.2% turnover decline in Q3 2024 when compared to the same period of 2023. In Q3, commercial online gambling and betting reached SEK 4.331bn (£309.8m), while state lottery and slot games reached SEK 1.362bn (£97.4m). Public-purpose games, such as national lotteries, generated SEK 818m (£58.4m). Community games and bingo generated SEK 50m (£3.5m), and land-based commercial gaming generated SEK 63m (£4.5m).
Almost 118,000 individuals had self-excluded via the Spelpaus.se scheme by Q3’s end. This is an increase of 5.9% when compared to the previous quarter, Q2.
The lowest turnover in Sweden
Casino Cosmopol, a subsidiary of state-owned Svenska Spel, reported the lowest turnover at SEK 31m (£2.1m). Moreover, the casino chain saw an 11.4% decline in turnover in Spelinspektionen’s December 2023 report, with closures of its Sundsvall, Gothenburg, and Malmö locations.
