Spelinspektionen sets stricter casino regulations in Sweden

Last week, the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) announced that it would set new regulations to counter excessive gambling.

Sweden, a Scandinavian nation where gambling is legal, will have stricter rules for gambling operators starting from October 1st. The new rules will be aimed at improving responsible gambling and player protection.

The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) will now have the authority to enforce new, specific requirements for these plans.

Sweden’s Minister of Financial Markets, Niklas Wykman, said:

“There must be order in the gaming market. The new requirement should lead to more detailed action plans so that it becomes clear how the gambling companies take their responsibility to counteract risks related to gambling. This strengthens the Swedish Gambling Authority’s ability to prevent people from being affected by the negative aspects of gambling.”

Responsible gambling is the main criterion for the new rules, following which casino operators must clearly show how they are going to promote it and what action will be taken from their side to ensure that there are no compliance violations.

For such violations, the SGA has also taken action against the ice hockey team IF Björklöven, which was licensed to conduct lotteries for fans. The SGA fined SEK20,000 and issued a warning for issues including changing the date of a lottery draw and failing to meet technical requirements.
