Sports betting handle in New York reaches $1.4B in July

New York’s sports betting handle hit $1.4 billion in July 2025, up from $1.26 billion in July 2024 but the lowest monthly total since last August, according to the New York Gaming Commission.
Sportsbooks had $155.6 million in gross revenue, a 10.5% year-on-year increase but down 24.9% from June. It was the first month in 2025 with revenue below $160 million and the weakest since December 2024’s $150.1 million.
Online operators recorded an 11.1% hold rate, matching July 2024 and ranking third-highest this year. The slower month was attributed to the summer lull, with no NBA games and only a limited NFL preseason.
New York collected $79.3 million in sports betting taxes in July, down nearly $30 million from June but pushing total tax revenue for 2025 past $700 million.
DraftKings, the only operator to clear the half-billion mark in July, led the market with $500 million in wagers, extending its streak of monthly handles above $500 million throughout 2025. FanDuel followed with $476.9 million, its first drop below $500 million since July 2024. However, FanDuel’s 12.8% hold produced $61.3 million in revenue, which is $8.8 million more than DraftKings.
Fanatics Sportsbook posted its 11th straight month above $100 million in wagers and ranked third in revenue with $13.9 million, up $5 million year-on-year. BetMGM and Caesars recorded handles of $98.1 million and $97.9 million, separated in revenue by less than $250,000.
ESPN BET placed sixth with $37.1 million in wagers and $3.9 million in revenue, slightly down from June. BetRivers followed with $35 million in handle and $3.3 million in revenue, while Bally Bet posted $9.2 million in wagers and about $0.9 million in revenue.
For the week ending on the 3rd of August, sportsbooks reported $36 million in revenue from $338.7 million in wagers.
