Interview with Roman Anufriev – Affiliate Team Lead at Alpha Affiliates

AffPapa interviewed Roman Anufriev, the Affiliate Team Lead at Alpha Affiliates. Roman discussed his journey into affiliate marketing, the key to top affiliates’ success, and gave advice for newcomers.

Yeva: Roman, can you share your personal journey before we dive into affiliate success? How did you land your role at Alpha Affiliates, and what keeps you passionate about this industry?

Honestly, I stumbled into the industry by chance. I have some experience in affiliate marketing, mainly content translation, and that small detail in my resume caught some attention. I was invited to an interview, and from there, I got hooked. I started digging deeper into affiliate marketing and quickly realized it has enormous potential for growth and solid earnings. However, I am passionate about how fast-paced and dynamic it is. This industry never stands still, and every day brings a new challenge—adapting to market changes or finding creative ways to engage partners. That’s what keeps me going.

Yeva: In your view, what separates the top-performing affiliates from the rest? Is it all about strategy, hustle, or something else entirely?

It’s a combination of strategy, persistence, and adaptability. The top affiliates have mastered negotiating deals that bring long-term value but also know how to handle setbacks. Hustle alone won’t cut it in this industry — you need a solid plan, an ability to pivot when things don’t work out, and a focus on relationship-building. The best affiliates are the ones who are constantly learning from their experiences, adjusting their tactics, and staying ahead of the curve by understanding where the market is heading. It’s that resilience that sets them apart.

Yeva: For someone just stepping into iGaming affiliate marketing, what’s the most brilliant first move?

The smartest thing you can do is start building connections with key players in the industry — network with affiliate managers from competing programs, especially those from larger, more established ones. Relationships are everything in affiliate marketing. By connecting with others, you can gain insights that might be obscure from the outside and discover trends or opportunities before they become mainstream. Getting active in industry events and online forums is also a good idea. The more people know your name, the easier it’ll be to establish yourself and get ahead.

Yeva: What’s the most common mistake you see new affiliates making? How can they avoid it?

The biggest mistake I see is giving up too soon. Affiliate marketing isn’t a quick win — it takes time, effort, and, often, a lot of trial and error. Before I became a top manager, there were a few times when I seriously considered quitting. But I stuck with it, and that persistence paid off. New affiliates need to understand that success is built over time. If something isn’t working, take it as a lesson instead of quitting, tweak your approach, and keep going. Avoiding this mistake is about having the mindset to stick it out through the tough times.

Yeva: Building traffic is one of the most complex challenges for new affiliates. What’s the best strategy for getting the first natural, engaged visitors to your content or site?

The key to building traffic is focusing on quality over quantity. You want to attract the right kind of visitors genuinely interested in your offering and likely to engage with your content. Start by targeting a niche market with lower competition but still strong demand. Solid SEO can also help you rank for specific, valuable keywords. Another great strategy is to partner with influencers or affiliates with an engaged audience, which can drive quality traffic early on. It’s about providing value and establishing trust from the get-go.

Yeva: What makes Alpha Affiliates the go-to choice for affiliates? What do you offer that others don’t?

Alpha Affiliates has years of experience, which gives us a natural edge. Our top-tier analytics team provides affiliates with data-driven insights, helping them optimize their campaigns and boost ROI. On top of that, our product management and affiliate marketing teams are some of the best in the industry. We’re not about one-size-fits-all solutions—we offer tailored strategies that suit each affiliate’s needs. And let’s not forget our brands. They have high conversion rates, and we’re continually improving the gamification side of things, which keeps players and partners happy. That combination of experience, expertise, and innovation sets us apart.

Yeva: Let’s talk about geos. Are there any untapped regions where affiliates can find ample opportunities? Where should new affiliates focus on making an impact?

The real opportunity lies in Tier 1 markets with high margins. If I had to recommend a few, focus on the Netherlands (NL), Germany (DE), Austria (AT), Switzerland (CH), Denmark (DK), and the UK. These profitable markets present substantial growth opportunities for affiliates who can play their cards right. If you’re motivated to earn well, these are the regions where you should focus your efforts. Of course, it takes a tailored approach, understanding local preferences, and keeping up with regulations, but the rewards are worth it.

Yeva: What does long-term success look like for an affiliate? What habits or strategies help someone stay profitable in this business over time?

Long-term success comes from building and maintaining solid relationships with your partners. A well-nurtured network is a huge asset in this business. But beyond that, staying adaptable is critical. The market changes constantly, and you must be ready to evolve. Affiliates who stick to one traffic source or rely on a single geo put themselves at risk. The most successful affiliates diversify their traffic channels, expand into new markets, and monitor industry trends. It’s also essential to consistently reinvest in your knowledge and skills to stay ahead.

Yeva: And finally, if you could have any superpower to help with your work as an affiliate, what would it be?

If I could have any superpower, it’d be the power of persuasion. In affiliate marketing, so much depends on your ability to influence people—whether negotiating with partners or getting visitors to convert. Being able to persuade effortlessly would be a game-changer in this industry, allowing you to close deals faster and more effectively while driving higher engagement from your audience.
