DraftKings to return $3 million to bettors Connecticut

The Department of Consumer Protection reported that DraftKings will refund over $3 million to 7,000 Connecticut consumers participating in certain bonus offers.

An investigation revealed that the company violated state gaming laws related to marketing and advertising. Connecticut bettors participated in bonus offers between October 19, 2021, and January 4, 2023, that promised a deposit match or a deposit bonus.

The affected consumers will receive information on their refund from DraftKings within 60 days.

The state agency warned customers about scammers that might impersonate DraftKings to steal the refund or personal information.

Bryan Cafferelli, Commissioner at the Department of Consumer Protection, said in a statement:

“We are pleased with the outcome of this investigation and that affected consumers will be made whole. Thank you to our Gaming Division team, who work tirelessly on behalf of Connecticut consumers to ensure fairness and safety in our legal gaming marketplace.”

The Department of Consumer Protection settled an additional agreement with DraftKings. The company will arrange to provide annual training on laws to all Connecticut marketing and advertising staff, improve the advertising of its education hub, and offer game tutorials for bonus promotions. DraftKings will also spend $50,000 to be used in consumer complaint resolution programs, consumer education, consumer protection enforcement, and litigation.
