Ireland and Gibraltar unite on gambling oversight

Ireland’s Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRAI) and the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an agreement which will allow the two countries to work more closely on gambling regulation.

Anne Marie Caulfield, CEO of the GRAI, signed the agreement in Dublin with Gibraltar’s Commissioner, Andrew Lynam. This partnership aims to improve how both countries monitor gambling companies, especially those operating across borders. Many gambling companies hold licences in more than one country, so a partnership comes as a key measure to provide a safer gambling environment.

Anne Marie Caulfield stated:

“This Memorandum of Understanding is a significant step in formalising the working relationship between regulators in Ireland and Gibraltar. The GRAI has acknowledged the role of Gibraltar’s regulatory body in supporting the early stages of Ireland’s regulatory rollout, with Caulfield thanking Lynam and his team for their “ongoing support and assistance.”

The MoU will focus on sharing information and offering mutual support to make sure companies follow the rules, despite their location.

This is the third such agreement GRAI has made after its launch back on March 5. In April, Ireland and the UK joined forces to combat illegal gambling.

Overall, Ireland is becoming one of the countries that continues to take stronger steps to have one of the safest gambling markets.
