Nevada Proposes $5.5M Fine Against Wynn Resorts

Wynn Resorts may face a $5.5M fine as Nevada regulators noted violations involving unregistered international money transfers. The final vote is set for May 22.

The settlement, released on May 16, is scheduled for a vote on May 22 by the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC). If endorsed, it would mark the third major fine inflicted on a Strip casino in less than three months. In March, Resorts World Las Vegas received a $10.5 million fine related to transactions with illegal bookmakers. In April, MGM Resorts was fined $ 8.5 million after the regulator found it had accepted nearly $5m in bets from unlawful betting operations.

The NGCB alleges that former Wynn employees facilitated international transactions through unlicensed money transmitters to fund gambling activity at Wynn Las Vegas. The property also reportedly permitted proxy betting, a practice banned under Nevada law due to its risk of masking the identity and source of funds.

The proposed state-level fine follows a federal investigation that concluded in September 2023, when Wynn agreed to forfeit $130 million to the US Department of Justice. That case resulted in a non-prosecution agreement, sparing the company criminal charges in exchange for cooperation and corrective measures related to its financial compliance practices.

The NGCB acknowledged Wynn Resorts’ full cooperation throughout both the federal and state investigations. During the federal probe, the company kept Nevada regulators informed and worked closely with authorities.

Legal representatives from both the Nevada Attorney General’s Office and Wynn Resorts are expected to present the terms of the agreement at the upcoming NGC meeting.

If ratified, the $5.5 million penalty will close the regulatory chapter on Wynn’s involvement in international financial activity deemed to be outside the bounds of US licensing standards.
