Slovakia’s iGaming market saw 30% increase in 2024

Slovakia’s Gambling Regulatory Authority (URHH) reported 2024 results, highlighting a 30% increase in iGaming revenues, with €476 million.
In a battle between iGaming and land-based gambling, iGaming claims the crown in Slovakia. In 2024, Slovakian players spent a total of €24.2 billion on gambling. When compared to 2023, this is an increase of 11%. Overall, the industry generated €1.45 billion in revenue, with the biggest contribution from iGaming.
Meanwhile, land-based gambling brought in €480 million, including €340 million from gambling rooms and €140 million from casinos.
Martin Bohoš, director general of the Gambling Regulatory Authority, commented:
“The largest market share is still held by online casinos. Their significant growth is related to innovations in digital services, changes in consumer behaviour and effective regulation by the state.”
However, URHH forecasts that strict regulatory changes of 2025 have the potential to significantly drop these numbers. Moreover, there is a risk that players may be attracted to illegal gambling, so there is a need to intensify gambling oversight.
Illegal gambling in Slovakia
To combat illegal gambling, URHH blocked 89 websites in 2024, bringing the total number of blocked websites to 820. URHH reaffirmed its commitment to player protection and responsible gaming, with 80% of licensed operators now following a strict advertising code to promote safe gambling.
